Haim Steinbach is an Israeli-born American artist known for his precise arrangements of found objects on shelves. Working within the tradition of Marcel Duchamp, Steinbach explores the role of the artist as a collector and curator of cultural artifacts. “We communicate through objects just as we communicate through language,” he has explained. “We see objects, we have feelings about them, and we feel them when we touch them.” Born in 1944 in Rehovot, Israel, he and his family moved to New York in 1957 and he became an American citizen in 1962.
