Jack Youngerman is an American artist known for his abstract paintings of simplified organic forms. Influenced by contemporaries such as Ellsworth Kelly as well as the cut-outs of Henri Matisse, Youngerman explores figure-and-ground relationships through juxtaposing colored shapes. “The whole primary thing I work with in my paintings is an exploration and articulation of all the possibilities of abstract shape,” he has explained.
