Sean Landers an American contemporary artist known for his use text and humor in painting, film, and sculpture. Often coming from personal writings, Landers’s motifs include a clown’s harrowing journey at sea, William Hogarth paintings, and animals covered in tartan patterns. “It’s no secret that Magritte’s ‘vache’ period had a huge impact on me. I’ve done over a hundred paintings based on that period,” he has said. Born in 1962 in Springfield, MA, he went on to receive a BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art and an MFA from Yale School of Art, where he met John Currin and Lisa Yuskavage.
