Richard Pettibone is an influential American artist. As a prominent figure in Pop and post-Pop Art, Pettibone’s work was a predecessor of 1980s Appropriation Art and offered an inventive, often humorous critique of 20th-century art. He notably creates miniature replicas of works by other famous figures, such as Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and Roy Lichtenstein — deliberately choosing artists whose works focuses on replication and seriality, adding an additional layer of irony to Pettibone’s reproductions.
