Richard Pettibone is an influential American artist. As a prominent figure in Pop and post-Pop Art, Pettibone’s work was a predecessor of 1980s Appropriation Art and offered an inventive, often humorous critique of 20th-century art. He notably creates miniature replicas of works by other famous figures, such as Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and Roy Lichtenstein — deliberately choosing artists whose works focuses on replication and seriality, adding an additional layer of irony to Pettibone’s reproductions. Born in 1938 in Los Angeles, CA, he went on to receive his MFA from the Otis Art Institute in 1962.
