Franz Radziwill was a German painter best known for his use of haunting, dream-like imagery. The artist often depicted apocalyptic cityscapes, overcome by war, death, and extreme weather, inspired by his service in both World War I and World War II. Like many other artists of his day, he hoped to raise concerns about aspects of modern culture and technology. Born Johann Franz Wilhelm Eduard Radziwill on February 6, 1895 in Stroshausen, Germany, Radziwill studied architecture at the Technical Staatslehranstalt Bremen. There, he worked alongside members of the Worpswede groups, including painters Otto Modersohn and Heinrich Vogeler.
