Raymond Saunders is an American artist known for his multimedia paintings that often carry sociopolitical undertones. "[Anything] other than what you think you accomplished, is really not important," he has stated. Born in 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he pursued his education at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pennsylvania and the California College of the Arts in California. Saunders has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Rome Prize Fellowship, the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts Awards, and the Schwabcher Frey Award.
