Larry Zox

(American, 1936 – 2006)
Larry Zox was an American Lyrical Abstraction painter and printmaker. The movement, which evolved out of the Color Field paintings of Hans Hofmann, Morris Louis, and Kenneth Noland, also included the artists Larry Poons, Pat Lipsky, and John Hoyland, among others. Zox’s works from the early 1960s utilized painted pieces of paper collaged onto jointed pieces of plywood into dynamic geometric shapes. Out of this body of work, he developed the foundation for his future paintings by essentially replicating the collaged quality of his earlier work by using painted boundaries to create the effect of overlapping space.
