Agustín Cárdenas

(Cuban, 1927 – 2001)
Agustín Cárdenas, also known as Agustín Cárdenas Alfonso, was a Cuban sculptor associated with Surrealist art. Born in 1927 in Matanzas, Cuba, he studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro” in Havana. Cárdenas was influenced by artists such as Brâncuși, Henry Moore, and Jean Arp. He passed away in 2001 in Havana, Cuba. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards including the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, the Fujisankey Biennal Prize, and the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas. His works are exhibited in various prestigious institutions such as the Centre National des Arts du Cirque, the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain, the Musée de la Sculpture en Plein Air, the Musée d’Art et d’Industrie, the Hakone Open-Air ...
