George Romney was a British artist known for his portrait painting of society figures. Born in 1734 in Beckside, Lancashire, England, he died in 1802 in Kendal, Cumbria, England. Romney spent much of his life in Kendal, Cumbria, England. He was influenced by Christopher Steele and Carlo Vanloo and was educated through the apprenticeship with Christopher Steele in Kendal. His notable peers included Sir Joshua Reynolds and Ozias Humphrey.
