Richard Pousette-Dart was an American artist best known for his large-scale abstract paintings. Composed of aggregate patterns and forms, his works form sprawling, frenetic compositions that made Pousette-Dart one of the founders of the New York School of painting. Born on June 8, 1916 in Saint Paul, MN, he fostered an interest in art at an early age, going on to attend Bard College in 1936 but quickly abandoning his studies to pursue dreams of artistic independence in New York City.
