Pál Fried

(American/Hungarian, 1893 – 1976)
Pál Fried was an American-Hungarian artist best known for his oil paintings of eroticized female dancers and nudes. Greatly influenced by the French Impressionists Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas, the artist’s early paintings depict Parisian streets and maritime landscapes. Born on June 16, 1893 in Budapest, Hungary, he trained at the Hungarian Academy before moving to Paris to study under Lucien Simon at the Académie Julian. Fried emigrated to the United States after World War II, setting up residence in both Los Angeles and New York. While in America, his portraits brought him financial success. Fried died on March 6, 1976 in New York, NY.
