Coby Whitmore

Coby Whitmore, whose full name was Maxwell Coburn Whitmore, was an American illustrator known for his postwar images of the ideal white American family. Born in 1913 in Dayton, Ohio, he later lived in Briarcliff Manor, New York. Whitmore passed away in 1988 in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He was educated at the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton and the Chicago Art Institute in Chicago. His work has been exhibited at the Pentagon, the United States Air Force Academy, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and Syracuse University. Whitmore was a contemporary of Jon Whitcomb and was influenced by Haddon Sundblom. He was inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame.
