Utagawa Kuniyoshi

Utagawa Kuniyoshi, born as Igusa Yoshisaburō on January 1, 1798, in Edo (modern-day Tokyo), Japan, was a prominent Japanese artist known for his significant contributions to the ukiyo-e genre in the Edo period. He studied under Utagawa Toyokuni, one of the era's leading ukiyo-e masters. Kuniyoshi is celebrated for his dynamic warrior prints and imagery from folklore. Related artists include Hiroshige and Hokusai. Kuniyoshi passed away on April 14, 1861, in Edo. His works remain influential in Japanese art history.
