Mike Bidlo
(American, born 1953)
Mike Bidlo is a contemporary American Conceptual artist, widely known for his extensive involvement with Appropriation Art. Freely referencing the movements of the early to mid-20th-century, Bidlo's work—as with contemporaries Glenn Brown and Sturtevant—draws from the rich and problematic history of Modern and Pop Art to critique and provide contemporary context to these canonical aesthetics. Born on October 20, 1953 in Chicago, IL, he went on to study at University of Illinois and receive his MFA from the Southern Illinois University. His practice has gained notoriety for its noted lack of alteration to the original material, as when Bidlo recreated modified versions of paintings by Fernand Léger, Clyfford Still, Yves Klein, and Jackson Pollock...
