Tomokazu Matsuyama is a Japanese artist born in 1976 in Takayama, Gifu, Japan. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, United States. Matsuyama's work is influenced by Japanese art from the Edo and Meiji eras, classical Greek and Roman statuary, French Renaissance painting, postwar contemporary art, and the visual language of global, popular culture. He studied at the Sophia University in Tokyo and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. His works have been exhibited in the Reischauer Institute at Harvard University, the Katzen Arts Center at American University Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, the Japan Society, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. He has received the Harbour City Gallery Public Art Commission.
