Peter Fischli and David Weiss

Peter Fischli and David Weiss often referred to as Fischli/Weiss, are two artists who collaborated from 1979 until 2012. Their photographs, videos, installations, and sculptures were replete with wit and discovery, presenting everyday materials in absurd and humorous contexts. Much of their work is in dialogue with the theories espoused by Dada and Fluxus artists, including Marcel Duchamp and Dieter Roth. In one of their best known works, Der Lauf der Dinger (The Way Things Go) (1986-1987), film clips of a number of vernacular objects have been spliced together, including candles burning, wheels spinning, and balloons deflating, creating an absurd relationship between each object. “The unpleasant and pleasant should inexplicably overlap in ...
