Gil Elvgren was an American artist born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1914. He became one of the most famous pin-up and glamour artists of all time, known for his iconic images of the all-American feminine ideal.  
 
After completing his studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Elvgren worked for several advertising agencies before becoming a freelance artist in the late 1930s. His work quickly gained popularity during the 1940s and 1950s and he created over 500 pin-up paintings during his career, many of which were featured in magazines, calendars, and advertisements.
