Giambologna

(Italian, b. ca. 1529 – 1608)
Jean Giambologna was an Italian sculptor known for his Mannerist style, which emphasized action and movement in his works. He specialized in bronze and marble. Born in 1529 in Douai, Flanders, Habsburg Netherlands, he was influenced by Michelangelo and trained in the studio of Jacques du Broeucq, Antwerp. Giambologna spent much of his career in Florence, Italy, where he passed away in 1608 in Florence, Italy. He was a member of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno. His works are exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
