Anne Ryan

(American, 1889 – 1954)
Anne Ryan was an American artist born in 1889 in Hoboken, New Jersey. She was known for her work in collage and was associated with the Abstract Expressionism movement. Influenced by Kurt Schwitters, she studied at the Academy of Saint Elizabeth convent in New Jersey. Ryan lived in New York City, New York and passed away in 1954 in Morristown, New Jersey. Her works are exhibited in numerous institutions including the British Museum, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Walker Art Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Yale University Art Gallery.
