Frederick Arthur Bridgman

Frederick Arthur Bridgman was an American artist known for his oil paintings depicting orientalist subjects. He was associated with the Orientalism movement. Born in 1847 in Tuskegee, Alabama, he later moved to Paris, France. Bridgman was influenced by Jean-Léon Gérôme and counted Harry Humphrey Moore and Thomas Eakins among his peers. He studied at the Brooklyn Art Association, New York City, and the National Academy of Design, New York City. Bridgman was awarded the Cross of the Legion of Honor. He passed away in 1928 in Rouen. His works are exhibited at the Speed Art Museum.
