Ernest Lawson was an American and Canadian artist known for his paintings that often depicted landscapes. He was associated with Impressionism and realism. Born in 1873 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, he later moved to Kansas City, United States. Lawson studied at the Art Students League in New York and the Académie Julian in France. His notable peers included Robert Henri, William Glackens, John Sloan, George Luks, Everett Shinn, Arthur B. Davies, and Maurice Prendergast, and he was influenced by John Henry Twachtman, J. Alden Weir, and Alfred Sisley. Lawson passed away in 1939 in Miami Beach, Florida, United States. His works are part of the collection at the Columbus Museum of Art.
