Pieter Brueghel the Younger

Pieter Brueghel the Younger was a Flemish painter known for his depictions of peasant life in rural settings, as seen in his work A Village Fair (1636). Like his father Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the artist painted compositions filled with detail that often included multiple narratives happening simultaneously. Born in 1564 in Brussels, Belgium, his famous father died when he was only five years old and was taught to paint alongside his brother Jan Brueghel the Elder by their grandmother Mayken Verhulst. It is believed that he apprenticed with the landscape painter in Gillis van Coninxloo in 1578, having moved to Antwerp that same year.
