Guy Laramée is a contemporary Canadian artist best known for his symbolic sculptures that portray a loss of information, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. His works often depict half-eroded objects like dictionaries, but also appear to be disintegrating mountain ranges, using both objects as a means to convey decay. “The erosion of cultures—and of ‘culture’ as a whole—is the theme that runs through the last 25 years of my artistic practice,” the artist explained in 2012. Born in 1957 in Montreal, Canada, Laramée went on to receive his BFA in visual arts and then his MA in anthropology from Concordia University.
