Tadao Ando is a renowned Japanese architect known for his use of concrete and his design philosophy that emphasizes simplicity, sensation and physical experiences. His approach is often categorized as critical regionalism, and he has been influenced by architects such as Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Louis Kahn. "To change the dwelling is to change the city and to reform society," reflects his belief in the power of architecture. Born in 1941 in Minato-ku, Osaka, Japan, Ando has been honored with the Pritzker Prize, among other accolades.
