Rebecca Horn is a German artist known for her performances which involve prosthetic uniforms and sculptural installations. Often dealing with the body and physical sensations, her uniforms are outfitted with exaggerated extensions of the face, hands, and mouth as seen in her hallmark work Einhorn (Unicorn). “Maybe I have a dark sense of humor or of claustrophobia. Sometimes my work's very shocking, as if something is wounded,” the artist said. “But it also has an aspect of tenderness. There are these two energies, balancing back and forth in certain works.” Born on March 24, 1944 in Michelstadt, Germany, Horn attended the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts before developing aggravated lung poisoning a year later due to fiberglass...
