Fabian Marcaccio is an Argentine-Italian artist whose genre-defying works address contemporary painting and their connection to the digital age. “My work is not really abstract, but it’s rooted in abstraction,” Marcaccio has said. “The time in painting, for me, is the big subject of the 21st century.” He blends digital printing techniques, photography, and sculpture to create a hybrid forms, such as his Environmental Paintants series that feature enormous, panoramic images that surround the viewer. In 2003, Marcaccio installed one of his largest works, a 300-meter-long painting titled Confine Paintant along the shores of Ghent, Belgium.
