Cuno Amiet

(Swiss, 1868 – 1961)

Cuno Amiet was a Swiss painter known for his experimental use of color in depicting self-portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Though his works are characterized by their expressive palettes, Amiet sought to harmonize his pastel hues rather than use them in their most saturated form. Later in his career, his work became increasingly abstract, focusing on studies of space and light. He was notably influenced by the Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler, the French Cloisonnist Émile Bernard, and the German Expressionists, becoming a member of the Die Brücke group until its dissolution in 1913.
