Brion Gysin

(British, 1916 – 1986)
Brion Gysin was a British artist born in 1916 in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, England. He was known for his work in painting, drawing, sound poetry, and performance art, and was associated with the Surrealism movement. His cut-up technique and calligraphic works were inspired by cursive Japanese "grass" script and Arabic script. Gysin passed away in 1986. He lived in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and was educated at the Sorbonne in Paris. He was awarded the American Commander of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and had notable peers and influencers such as William S. Burroughs, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí, Picasso, and Dora Maar. His works are exhibited in museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA...
