Spanish artist Edgar Plans was born in Madrid in 1977, and draws inspiration from sources including street art, Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Describing himself as a self-taught artist, he was encouraged as a child to pursue his creative passions and obsessively drew characters from his favorite comic books.  
 
Over the past few years, Plans has become known for his playful, colorful Animal Heroes, characters that, with their mouse ears, large heads and luminous eyes, tap into ‘kawaii’ art, and the culture of cuteness currently popular in Asia.   
 
In 2019, Plans’s work Colors (mixed media on panel) sold for $698,570 at auction.
