Edouard Marcel Sandoz
(Swiss, 1881 – 1971)
Edouard Marcel Sandoz was a Swiss animalier sculptor. His best known works are depictions of foxes, rabbits, and cats, in bronze, ceramic, and stone. Though he also produced watercolors of landscapes and flowers, his primary occupation led him to found the French Society of Animalists in 1933. “In art, one has to love everything: nature, science, one's fellow man,” the artist said. Born on March 21, 1881 in Basel, Switzerland, he was encouraged to pursue his artistic talents by his parents. In 1908, he moved to Paris to study art and remained there for much of his life.
