Julia Fullerton-Batten
(British, born 1970)
Julia Fullerton-Batten is British commercial and fine-art photographer. Her work is particularly concerned with bringing attention to controversial social issues, such as sex trafficking, child abuse, and gender. One of her earliest major projects, Teenage Stories (2005), narrates the transition from adolescence to adulthood and represents the feelings of fear and discomfort experienced alongside puberty. A frequent characteristic of Fullerton-Batten’s photographs is their surreal imagery, as seen in the 2008 image Bamboo, where a model falls backwards through the air under dreamlike lighting. “I couldn't function as a fine-art photographer without my ability to imagine, develop, and shoot a project with everything that entails,” she has said...
