Chryssa Vardea-Mavromichali was an American and Greek artist known for her innovative use of neon, steel, aluminum, and acrylic glass to explore themes of advertising and mass communications. "I only ever kept one work for more than 15 years in my studio, 'The Arrow' – it is now in Albany, in the Rockefeller Collection," she once remarked. Born in 1933 in Athens, Greece, she passed away in 2013 in Athens, Greece. Chryssa studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. She was awarded the Guggenheim fellowship. Her notable peers included Richard Anuszkiewicz, Lee Bontecou, Robert Indiana, Richard Lindner, Marisol, Claes Oldenburg, Ad Reinhardt, and James Rosenquist. Chryssa lived...
