This is a stunning print in colors from the acclaimed "Amnesia and memory" Series published in 2006, and is a unique and poignant image by Zhang Xiaogang, one of the most famous Chinese Contemporary artists working today. This stunning print is of an empty bed, with flashlight shining a red-colored beam, the color referencing China as well as family blood-lines, as it rests atop a hand-written letter that sits on the white bedding, with a bare light-bulb hanging above the bed is Zhang at his very best. Zhang's most sought-after prints are mostly black and white, with unexpected inclusion of false, fragmented colors, especially red and yellow. This is edition 84 of 88 is printed on 300g Somerset velvet paper, and in excellent condition. This paper size measures 31.3 in. x 23.3 in. (79.6 cm. x 59.3 cm).

Zhang Xiaogang was born in China in 1958 and has become indisputably one of the most recognizable and significant Contemporary Chinese artists today, and he has enjoyed this status since the earliest days of the international art market in China. According to Sotheby’s, “…these hallmark images have become nothing less than visual shorthand for the entire category known as ‘Chinese contemporary art’." A painting by the artist recently set a record for the highest price ever paid at auction for a Contemporary Chinese painting.
