Lot Details

"Opera No. 5" (2012) is a stunning new oil on painting canvas by Chinese Contemporary Artist Zhang Xiangming that belong to his exciting, new "Opera" Series of hyper-realist oil portraits, where the conflation of old world China as defined here by the Opera, and the confidence and independence of modern-day China co-exist. Zhang's portrait of this beautiful young Chinese woman embodies both tradition and modernity and showcases his incredible level of painting.

The clear visual focus is on this woman's visage, her porcelain skin and facial features rendered in stunning detail, as if too perfect. Her large, glimmering eyes are filled with seductive innocence and her bright pink lips are parted in an expression of wonder, gazing as if looking at her own image in a reflecting pool, underscored by the ethereal blue background of the painting. Despite the innocence that this woman possess, she also has a spirit of confidence and sensuality, half-aware of her power of seduction. This work is unframed and in perfect condition.

He graduated from the Shandong Normal University Art Department in 2003 and received his Master's Degree in oil painting at the Artistic Research Institute of China in 2007.
