Lot Details

Contemporary Chinese artist Zhang Shipei (China, B. 1942) is renown for painting deft whimsical images of every-day life in China, most often in Guangzhu City. He is most famous for his Ink and Brush paintings, as seen here, which are skilfully gestural with lighthearted often humorous overtones. “Singing Frogs”, is wonderful example of Zhang's work at its very best, depicting flourishing activity of the warbling Chinese amphibian, known to dwell in the dense underbrush along the edge of the water. Here, the mating ritual is portrayed in a frenzy of movement through bright colors and rapid brushwork. This work measures 26.77 x 26.77 inches is framed to larger dimensions of 35.43 x 35.43 inches, is in perfect condition, and comes and is accompanied with a formal certificate of authentication. Zhang Shipei was born in Guangdong and graduated the Guangzhou Fine Art Academy in 1968. The artist presently lives and works in China.
