Lot Details

Contemporary Chinese artist Zhang Shipei (China, B. 1942) is renowned for deft paintings of whimsical images of every-day life in China, most often in Guangzhu City. His most sought-after works are his color and ink brush on paper paintings, which are skillfully gestural with light-hearted, often celebratory, overtones. In "Erhu", Shipei paints a moving image of a musician playing the well-known, challenging song "Horse Race" on the traditional Chinese two stringed instrument. The Chinese characters roughly translate, "The audience was amazed at the playing of the song Horse Race." This work measures 26.77 x 26.77 inches, is professionally framed to larger dimensions of 36.22 x 36.22 inches, and is accompanied with a formal certificate of authentication. The work is in excellent condition. Zhang Shipei was born in Guangdong and graduated the Guangzhou Fine Art Academy in 1968. The artist presently lives and works in Guangzhou City.
