Lot Details

"Untitled no. 20" (2007) is a rare and early monumental oil painting, and is a museum-level tour-de-force work by Chinese Contemporary artist Zhang Haiying (China, b. 1972) and belongs to his famed "Anti-Vice Raid Campaign" Series, which has been exhibited world-wide, most recently at The Saatchi Collection, London, UK. This painting measures 78.70 x 63 inches (200 x 160 cm) is unframed, in perfect condition and has never been offered at international auction prior. Nearly breaking down and abstracting the forms of the two young women that embrace in the center of the dark canvas with deft, broad, gestural brush-strokes of white paint, that also serve to depict their sudden movements, is inherent to Zhang's iconic manner of painting, and is balanced by quiet areas of delicate attention to detail.

Zhang Haiying (B. 1972) is globally famed for his Social-Realist paintings, and his works depict themes of power and vulnerability as a way to investigate perceptions of emotional discord and disillusionment in his native China. The artist has exhibited at numerous locations internationally including The Saatchi Gallery "The Revolution Continues-New Chinese Art", (London, UK), Willem Kerseboom Gallery (Amsterdam, NL), and Sovereign Asia Art Foundation (Hong Kong), among many others. His paintings have been exhibited throughout Asian, Europe, U.K. with the Western market becoming aware of his world-wide appeal and rising fame as one of China's new important painters working today.
