Lot Details

Handcuffed and naked, a sensual young woman kneels to the floor in submission in an empty room, her long dark hair covering her face from view, hiding her identity while leaving her virginal body exposed. Monumental in scale, "Anti-Vice Scene 2012-8-2" stunning oil painting belongs to the famed "Anti-Vice Raid Campaign" Series by Chinese Contemporary artist Zhang Haiying. The Series directly addresses the Chinese government's agenda to eradicate prostitution and strip clubs throughout all major cities in China, and Zhang aims to be non-judgmental, to capture a socio-political moment in time, yet there is an undeniable pathos and empathy felt towards this young woman, in her inherently desirable yet denigrated beauty. Consisting of appropriated police photographs from these strip club and brothel raids, the "Anti-Vice Raid Campaign" Series documents these very public and abusive raids by Chinese police. This work is unframed and in excellent condition, measuring 63x 78.75 inches (160 x 200 cm) as stretched. Work can be shipped on or off of stretchers professionally rolled and crated as desired.
