Handcuffed and naked, an anonymous young woman kneels in submission in an empty room, her long dark hair covering her face from view, while leaving the rest of her body exposed. Monumental in scale, measuring 63 x 78.75 inches (160 x 200 cm), "Anti-Vice Raid Scene 2012-8-2" (2012) is a stunning oil painting by Chinese Contemporary artist Zhang Haiying. This work belongs to Zhang's "Anti Vice-Raid Campaign" Series of figurative oil paintings that directly addresses the Chinese government's agenda to eradicate prostitution and strip clubs throughout all major cities in China. Each of his paintings is of based on images from police photographs of actual strip club and brothel raids, and Zhang aims to imitate a photograph quickly and unexpectedly taken in his works, underscored by the grey-scale of a black and white photograph that he paints in and as if a bright flash has just gone off, capturing this woman's image.

Zhang Haiying (B. 1972) is a Contemporary Chinese artist whose specializes in "social-realist paintings", exploring devices of propaganda for non-political means. The artist has exhibited at numerous locations internationally including The Saatchi Gallery "The Revolution Continues-New Chinese Art", (London, UK), Willem Kerseboom Gallery (Amsterdam, NL), and Sovereign Asia Art Foundation (Hong Kong), amongst numerous others. His paintings are exhibited throughout Asian, Europe, U.K. with the U.S market becoming aware of his world-wide appeal and rising fame as one of China's new faces of Contemporary Art. The artist lives and works in Beijing, China.
