Lot Details

This work, "Liquidated Hammer and Sickle," with its long, purposeful drips of yellow paint, displays the "Liquidated Logo" technique that Zevs has employed since the mid-2000s.

Zevs is a well-known French street artist active in Paris in the 1990s and considered one of the early pioneers within the street art scene in France. In the 1990s he was known for his shadows drawings in Paris. In 2002 he began his technique of "Visual Kidnapping," in which he would cut out the figures from billboard ads, an act of "kidnapping" the model and demanding ransom from the brand as a way of drawing attention to the absurd prices brands pay for advertising campaigns. By the mid-2000s, Zevs had become most famous for his "Liquidated Logos," which appropriate popular brand images and show them dripping with paint, as if melting off the wall. Zev's first major retrospective exhibition took place in 2008 at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has also shown at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Galerie Patricia Dorfmann in Paris, and Depury and Luxembourg in Zurich, among many others.
