These two oil paintings belongs to the iconic 'Heart' series of small-scale figurative oil paintings by rising star Chinese artist Zeng Pu, started in 2009. Painting at least one small oil paintings a day, no two are alike, as all of the works in Zeng's 'Heart Series' encapsulates his versions of the varied people, places and things he sees in Beijing, as well as images on-line, in his dreams and from memories. Zeng paints his subjects, as seen here, against an ethereal white background, totally out of context, making their furtive expressions, each figure's identity is partially hidden behind the bright red and blue sweaters and bundled scarves they wear, further transforming this pair of paintings into abstract memories or emotion, as if a snapshot from a dream or memory.
