Lot Details

"Heart, No. 130" (2010) is one of the most intense and exciting of the small oil portraits on canvas of a mysterious young woman who appears here like a ghost or image from a dream, depicted in white collared shirt, gazing unabashedly outwards, with her dark cropped hair framing impish facial features and full, bright red lips. This intense work is by emerging Chinese Contemporary artist Zeng Pu, and belongs to his famed ongoing 'Heart' series of small-scale figurative oil paintings. As is typical of Zeng's paintings from this Series, here he paints his subject against a white background, placing her at the bottom of the canvas, as if she is literally fading from view, further transforming her into an apparition, as if from a dream or memory and uses oil paint here in pools and in a gestural manner to heighten the feeling that this is portrait is ethereal and fantastic. This painting measures 13.78 x 9.05 inches (65 x 23 cm) is unframed and in excellent condition.

Zeng Pu (B. 1982 Born: Xichang, Sichuan, China) is a rising star in Chinese Contemporary art, known for his stunning oil paintings from his already iconic "Heart" Series are based on the young people he meets in the art-scene, views on-line, or occupy his own thoughts and fantasies.
