Lot Details

"The Butterfly Loves the Flower No.2" (2012) is one of the most recent and exciting digitally manipulated nude color photographs by famed emerging female Chinese Contemporary artist Yu Hang (China, B. 1981). This surreal, erotic photograph depicts a young Chinese woman standing posed nude wearing a provocative black garter-belt and thigh-high stockings, as well as dramatic makeup and traditional headdress. Yu Hang has digitally transposed an exotic image of a bird and flower upon the woman's porcelain skin, imitating an intricate tattoo, that visually connects her body to the traditional decorative Chinese elements that fill the rest of the composition. In the work of Yu Hang, tradition and modernity merge in exciting manners, as do painting and photography, as she keeps her margins and tones intentionally blurred and uneven to lend a painterly feel to the works.
This photograph is unframed and in excellent condition. From edition of 8.

Yu Hang was born in 1981 in China, and graduated from the Sheng Yang Lu Yi Art School in 2001. She received a degree in 2006 from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, China and received her Masters of Fine Arts at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2009 in Beijing, China. She is represented and exhibited by top galleries including Eli Klein Fine Art, NY and Yang Gallery, Beijing and Singapore, amongst others.
