Lot Details

"Butterfly Loves the Flower" (2012) is a stunning color photograph by emerging Chinese female Contemporary artist Yu Hang, which belongs to her dream-like series of figurative works that all tend to represent young, beautiful Chinese women in lush historical narratives, suspended in a fantasy-world somewhere between old and new China. This work is edition 2 of 10, measures 39.37 x 37.40 inches (100 cm x 95cm), and is in excellent condition.
This photograph depicts the young woman sitting contrapposto toward the viewer while holding a fan. She wears the sumptuous, traditional headdress, makeup, and embellished fabric of the gilded Qing dynasty-era. Making this more than just a pretty picture are the Chinese calligraphic marks and Qing Dynasty decorative elements that appear throughout the room, added to the scene by digital manipulation of the negative by the artist. The stunning photographs by Yu Hang transport one into a sensual realm that is uniquely the artist's own, and proves why she is one of the top Chinese Contemporary artists of her 1980's generation.

Yu Hang was born in 1981 in China and in 2001 Graduated from the Sheng Yang Lu Yi Art School. She received her B.FA. Degree in 2006 from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, China and receive her Masters of Fine Arts at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China in 2009. She is represented and exhibited by top galleries including Eli Klein Fine Art and Yang Gallery, Asia, among others. Recent Solo Exhibitions include 2008 "China Avant Garde", Los Angeles, “Chalk, Ink” Beijing Tangsheng Art Salon; in 2007, “The Female Dormitory at The New Kaifeng Bridge”, Longyibang Gallery, Beijing. The artist's most recent group gallery show was in 2009 "Passing by China", Eli Klein Fine Art, New York, with numerous gallery and museum shows throughout China, Asia and the US prior.
