Lot Details

"Translated Vase" (2008) is a visually arresting, unique ceramic sculpture in the round by rising star, Korean Contemporary artist, Yee Sookyoung. Comprised of ceramic shards, epoxy, and 24K gold leaf, this sculpture belongs to Yee’s seminal 2008 "Translated Vase" series of table-top sculptures, where the artist turns smashed Korean pottery that was deemed imperfect into hauntingly beautiful works. By creating a singular 'new' vase from discarded shards, the artist creates his own version of what it is to be beautiful and perfect. This sculpture measures 25.2 x 13.77 x 13.39 inches (64 x 35 x 34 cm) and is in excellent condition. Ceramic works by the artist are held in the Saatchi Collection, U.K. among others and his works were exhibited at Art Basel- Hong Kong, May 2013to critical acclaim. This work is accompanied with a formal Certificate of Authenticity from Michael Schultz Gallery, Beijing, where it was acquired by present U.S. Private Collection.
