"Zero Distance" is an unabashedly celebratory example of the figurative Neo-Pop painting by emerging Chinese Contemporary Artist Xiong Lijun, already represented by top galleries world-wide such as Opera Gallery. Her work reflects the new culture that her '70's' generation of artists presently experience in the Contemporary Chinese art world and in the major cities of China, where color, culture, and the pace are all intense and unabashedly modern. Here one of her iconic and inviting cartoon-like women reach out to pull one into her world-wearing hip, patterned leggings, a patterned bra-top and her hair in a very contemporary fashion. She is painted out of context against an electric pink background and against abstract space-age patterns made from vivid pools of paint. Xiong makes the image, gesture, dress and exuberant expression of this woman into a post-modern and ultra-urban metaphor for the younger Chinese generation, who are living life to its fullest. Her very expressive style is iconic and is appealing to collectors from Asia, to Europe as well as the US.

Xiong Lijun was born in China in 1975. In 2002 she received her M.F.A in oil painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.. Before she obtained her degree, Lijun already was in select group and solo exhibitions in China, Korea and in the United States. In 1996 her work was included in “Triumph of the Long Walk, 60th Anniversary", Art Museum of Sichuan, China. She also took part in 'Third National Exhibition of Chinese Painters" at the National Museum of Art, Beijing, China, as well as in 2003: “In Pursuit of Happiness and Freedom: The New Art of China,”, USA. The artist lives and works in China.
