Lot Details

A lyrical quartet of four color silkscreens from the "Vermont Barn Variations" series, each hand signed and numbered from the edition of only 18 by celebrated abstract painter and supreme colorist Wolf Kahn(born 1927).

Wolf Kahn trained with Hans Hofmann during the late forties and is considered one of the foremost landscape artists in America. The artist’s beautiful and lyrical landscapes easily transform into abstract color fields.

Each of the four silkscreens measures 10.5 by 13.75 inches. Each has desirable deckled edges and would look terrific floated and framed - individually or together (as shown). Individually, or as a set, these uncommon prints make an original and memorable gift.

Like his mentor Hofmann, Wolf Kahn himself has inspired several generations of painters. His work is in major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is also collected by Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford Bill and Hillary Clinton, the Bidens and many other influential people. In fact, as has been widely reported in press and a TV documentary, President Bill Clinton bought his wife Hillary several Wolf Kahn paintings for their 30th wedding anniversary. This particular work has superb provenance. It was first exhibited at the Thomas Segal Gallery, and later at a major NYC museum for its fundraiser, as it was hand picked from the artists Manhattan studio and donated directly by Wolf Kahn himself. The original 2003 retail price was $6500.
