Lot Details

Executed in 1999, this piece by Winston Roeth is a stunning work of tempera on honeycomb panel which captures his signature style. In his iconic approach to painting, Roeth focuses on the intensity of color and a reductive method towards the composition. Here, a blank outline frames a vibrant blue square, allowing the viewer to contemplate the surface and visually engage with the work overall.

Contemporary artist Winston Roeth (b. 1945) is known for his works of abstraction which explores the visual experience behind color, light contrasts, and minimal compositions. Using a tempura medium and raw pigments, Roeth’s use of vibrant colors and grid-like arrangements invite meditative investigations of his work from the viewer, engaging them with matte surfaces and shifting picture planes. The artist has exhibited at numerous venues including Stark Gallery (New York, NY), Nusser & Baumgart Contemporary (München, Germany), Palazzo Ducale di Sassuolo (Sassuolo, Italy), and Angles Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), among others.
