Lot Details

"Untitled" (1975) by Willem de Kooning exemplifies the Abstract Expressionist’s revolutionary approach to creating art. Rendered in de Kooning’s trademark style, this small black and white charcoal on paper work depicts the artist's aggressive, abstract gestural brushwork.

Artwork measures 8.5 x 11 inches. Accompanied by copies of Bill of Sale and letter confirmation of payment from Eleanor Ward to Larry Larkin, dated November 20, 1980.

Willem de Kooning (1904-1997) was a central figure of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism along with Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, and helped change the course of art. After the six-year interlude of World War II, the first generation of new American painting challenged modernist European tradition with evolutionary élan and an explosion of spirit.
