This print was published to benefit the Rainbow Art Foundation, founded by de Kooning along with fellow artists Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, and Bill Caldwell. The organization raised money to help young, disadvantaged artists.
The image features in the center legendary jazz musician Thelonious Monk playing the piano. The word "rainbow" is partially scrawled across the top in green and below in red, yellow, and blue. This work is from the edition of 125 and comes framed.
